Anca Sandu, our in-house illustrator, created this amazing artwork for the band Carpool, with the support/art direction of Pipe & Tabor. This is Carpool’s newest EP that was funded by a Kickstarter campaign. We loved their music so much, that we had to lend a hand. We think you’ll enjoy them as much as we do. Anca answered our Craigslist’s post 9 months ago, thinking that the ad was fun and looked like Pipe & Tabor could be a fun place to work at. (little did she know just how silly of a group of people we were). It didn’t take too long until she was immersed in the creative world of Pipe & Tabor.

Here’s a sketch of her career:
Anca studied Visual Communication in Romania, anticipating a career in Graphic Design, but later discovered that her passion for design, illustration and writing could ‘come together’ inherently in the creating of picture books. She graduated with a Masters Degree from the Cambridge School of Art, and now works with Random House UK on several book projects. Her first children’s picture book was published in December, 2012. She is currently working on her second book for Random House UK.

Anca has collaborated on several illustration projects for advertising (i.e. Skoda), book illustration and corporate design. She has worked internationally with groups from the UK, Italy, South Korea, Singapore, and Romania. During her 9 months stint with us, she has worked on logos for Cause+Event Portland, Rise to Excellence, as well as helping with the source art for motion graphics projects such as Windows 8 rollout training videos, A Poverty documentary, and a video about curbing child abuse. We’re glad we caught Anca’s eye with our ad, and she drew her own conclusions about us!

Things are Fresh for Mary’s Harvest

A completely new brand for Mary’s Harvest Fresh Foods… a new company based on a deeply rooted concept. While creating this brand, we made sure to focus on the reason behind this brand, Mary. Her pioneering spirit and focus on family, served as an inspiration for this company and the overall brand. And 70 years later, her family is going back to its roots and expanding on Mary’s vision of fresh and ready food. Read Mary’s story here. As with most of our branding projects, we spent time researching the past, their story, and how best to tell their story, all the while keeping our sights focused on the future business plans. With their Italian family background strongly a part of this experience, we choose to use this Italian flavor throughout the overall impression of the brand, from the colors to the typefaces, to the overall ‘look and feel.’ For the Mary’s Harvest Fresh Foods brand, we created everything from the logo identity, stationary design (Business Card, Letterhead, and envelope) to a full website that integrates their third party ordering system, a WordPress CMS (Content Management System) and captures the heritage look and feel they were looking for to help firmly establish the family focus of this new brand. We even had a fun produce photo shoot with some of their great fresh food offerings! Be sure to keep your eyes open very soon for some of their fresh food offerings!

Pipe & Tabor recently assisted bike enthusiast Adam Clement with his new product website launch retroshift.com for his RetroShift product. For those in the Cyclo-cross field, this is a huge development in the ease of shifting, while remaining bullet proof in the elements and still being affordable. Branding for the Inland NW Rail Museum

The Inland NW Rail Museum is devoted to the railroad history of Eastern Washington and are currently building a new museum in Reardan, WA. In building this new museum, they decided they wanted to brand their company. We were ecstatic about this new project, and put our brains together as we searched for the right image to represent their organization. Our goal was to define the logo by its original history. In our research we found that an image of a caboose would best represent the organization and their collection, since all trains used to have cabooses’ at the end of their train. Since cabooses’ are no longer used in trains it gave it a more historic and nostalgic feel and it also reminded us of the book we grew up reading, “The Little Red Caboose”. To finish off this logo with a warm feel, we created the final illustration by hand-drawing it. Check them out at their Facebook page.

Metamorphosis Out Now!

Recently, we were given the opportunity to work with Illustra Media on a project called Metamorphosis. The emphasis of this film was on the incredible life cycle of a butterfly and our task was to design the main title and packaging for the film. Spectacular photography, computer animation and magnetic resonance imaging open once hidden doors to every stage of a butterfly’s life-cycle. From an egg the size of a pinhead to a magnificent flying insect. It is a transformation so incredible biologists have called it “butterfly magic.” Filmed in North, Central, and South America, Metamorphosis is an unforgettable documentary filled with the joys of discovery and wonder. Vancouver, WA’s Ice Cream Renaissance gets a new location and brand!

Local Vancouver, Washington Dessert favorite Ice Cream Renaissance just got a new location, across the street a block down at 1925 Main Street, right next door to Pop Culture. Pipe & Tabor worked with Seanette Corker of Back Front Door to help ‘polish and refresh’ their existing brand identity, as well as some of the window and other branding treatments. We in the process on working with them on the new menus and a new website landing page. (they do most of their web updates via their Facebook page). Please go check out some of their great homemade ice creams and other wonderful desserts! We are fortunate to have them as our dessert partners! (although I don’t my waistline is as fortunate).
